Lewis Farms Fire Station 29

Lewis Farms Fire Station in Edmonton, Alberta, demonstrates how Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) facade panels can incorporate public art directly into a building’s exterior. Local artist Victoria Wiercinski created Midnight Dispatch, a facade design inspired by the Northern Lights and Alberta’s starry night skies. Envel collaborated with Wiercinski to develop the custom Aurora surface texture, translating her design into UHPC panels and meeting the project’s municipal requirement for art inclusion on public works projects.

The facade combines a custom artistic surface with durable cladding suited to Edmonton’s freezing winters and hot summers. Inside, the station features three drive-through bays accommodating up to six emergency response vehicles, along with office space, living facilities, and an exercise room for on-duty crews. A vented turnout gear room provides dedicated storage for contaminated bunker gear as an added health and safety feature.
